How to Properly Ride a Horse
When it comes to riding horses, there are right and wrong ways of going about it. The important aspect of riding a horse is to keep you and your horse safe and comfortable at all times. In this blog, we will cover some of the mistakes the first time riders make when riding their horse.
Gripping with Your Legs
While you do want to stay sturdy on your horse, you don't want your leg muscles constricting around the horse you are riding. In order to prevent this, allow your legs to hang from your hip when you are on top of the horse. Image a straight line from your ear down your body to the heel in the stirrup.
There are times during a ride where you have the desire to point your toes downward. If you do so, this will cause you to be out of rhythm with your horse, and you will bounce heavily. To prevent this, take some time to work on your leg position and use your core muscles.
Posture is important for horseback riding and is a way to keep in control of your horse safely. In order to not slouch, keep your back straight and relaxed with your chin up and look where you are going.
While these are the most common problems new riders face, there are more we did not cover. If you want to enjoy a trail ride, call and sign up today! We will give you a training lesson before the trail ride to ensure you are safe and riding well!

I just started on lessons (dream come true!) and was wondering. From what I know, no one from the riding school I go to (in Singapore) has ever suffered any bad accidents.

I liked what you said about how it is easy to get out of balance while riding a horse and can cause a lot more bouncing and it can be caused by when you point your toes downward. My cousin and I have been thinking about riding some horses and learning how to could be really nice and have a lot more fun and very relaxing. Getting some help from a professional for us to learn how to do it faster would be really useful.

Thank you for explaining that keeping you and your horse safe and relaxed all the time is the most crucial part of horse riding. My brother recently found his fondness for horse riding. He even wants to take horse riding lessons to learn the how-tos of riding a horse.

I thought it was interesting when you explained that it is important to keep you and your horse comfortable while you are riding it. Would it be important to have a pair of strong gloves while you are riding a horse? It seems like having a pair of gloves would allow you to have a good grasp on the reins while you are riding a horse.

Great post, I completely agree with the tips you've shared about proper horseback riding techniques. Another tip I would add is using a calming powder for horses before your ride. Calming powders can help to reduce nervousness and anxiety in horses, making them more relaxed and easier to ride. Overall, safety should always be the top priority when riding horses and using a calming powder can be a great addition to your routine.

Thanks so much for talking about the importance of riding with good posture so you can keep control of the horse safely. I have a friend who is starting a small horse riding lessons business and all she needs now is some extra riding supplies and she can start her first classes. We've been looking to find a place that sells quality supplies that she can look through so she can find stuff that's great for first-time riders.
